This hydraulic stem was machined from 4140 hardened chrome rod as part of a hydraulic cylinder repair for a Hino dump truck. Both ends of the rod were machined to suit the existing cylinder and mounting arrangement.

Unlike many hydraulic components that remain protected within the cylinder, the stem spends part of its working life exposed to the outside environment. Every time the cylinder extends, the rod is subjected to dirt, moisture, road salt, stone chips, and whatever other conditions the truck happens to be working in that day.
